Programs offered:
Adopt-A-Family for Christmas: provides gifts and gift certificates for local grocery stores for Christmas dinner, if you donate, you can also provide additional non-perishable goods as well...if you want to donate, call them to receive a family...they will mail or fax (no email) you the family information (first name, ages, wish list) and provide details on how to box up your items and mark them so they go to the correct family...you can select whatever size family you like and you can select more than one family to adopt...you wrap and drop off the gifts at the location they specify to you on/by 12/15...NOTE: Families are still in need!! It's not too late to donate or adopt!!
Giving Tree: pull a tag off the Christmas Tree located at Belden Village (Westfield) Mall and purchase the gift...return it to the tree...a $25 value gift is expected...new items ONLY.
Coats for Christmas: new or gently used coats for people of all ages...there are numerous drop-off locations throughout the Stark County/Canton area...to mention a few, Zion Lutheran Church on Raff Rd., St. Joan of Arc on Tusc., Terry's Tire Town on Tusc., and Mellett Plaza Laundry on Tusc....call them for additional drop-off locations.
Donations are also still needed in the form of cash so that the organization can help provide food gift certificates for the families that don't get adopted for Christmas...Fisher Foods works in conjunction with them to provide these in bulk quantities.
Just an FYI...I am NOT affiliated with this organization or any of the businesses mentioned...I'm doing this as a simple gesture, and they may not even like it...but I'm simply offering this information to anyone in need as well as anyone that's in a position to help others this year but doesn't know where or how to do it. I am fortunate this year and can afford to give a little...I adopted a total of 8 persons...I couldn't do that a year ago...yes, things will be tight, but I look at it as if there will be 8 people sharing Christmas "with us" this year who wouldn't be having a Christmas at all if we hadn't opened our hearts and, yes, our wallets too. I am grateful to help families in Canton/Stark County this holiday season!! I wish I could help all of them!!

I know about these things because I have acquaintances that indulge in all the
above then run short on food stamps for the month. And just because they
use the Ohio Direction Card, don't tell me they can't get cash for it. They
simply go to the store with that individual; pay for 'their' food with their
card and compensated with 'their' cash.
So there are answers! But answers that no one wants to face.
Yes, you will have to stand in line for food.
Yes, you will have to see your Case Worker for help.
No, you will not get the Toy of the Year, you will have to accept what is given.
No, you as an adult will not get anything, you will sacrifice for your children as in above.
Next year:
1. Work out a monthly budget to put $5-$10 a month away for Christmas.
2. Stark looking for 'small' gifts immediately and put them away.
3. Look through CL's Free Section for possible gifts.
4. Go looking through the trash; after Christmas is a good time because
ALL the spoiled brats throw away their old stuff.
5. Go 'stand in line' for food giveaways.
6. Go 'stand in line' for toy giveaways.
(After all, I bet if it was for FREE BROWNS' FOOTBALL TICKETS -or-
for your favorite rock group, you would be camped out over night! So what
makes your children any less?)
