We are a fun group that has been playing together for a short time (about a year). We have a rhythm guitar player with decent vocals and a drummer and bass player.
We need a lead player who wants to practice every Saturday night in West Akron. We play out each Wednesday night at The Open Mic at The Getaway Pub. We also have other opportunities to play at a few other venues if we want to do that. We are not into it for the money so I doubt we would ever have a "full" schedule of playing out. Although, personally, I love playing out and could probably do it every night. I just love being on stage. :)
We are all about 50 years old and playing music from the 60's through today. Whatever we feel like playing. Our Saturday nights are more like a jam and we don't really "practice" the same songs over and over. Rather, we play a different variety each week and try to have fun. We do anything from Zeplin and Floyd to Petty and Cash. Whatever you bring to the table you'll be able to play. We are pretty open minded in regard to music genre.
The Saturday jams are always a good time and playing at the various open mics allows us a chance to see how we sound in a public environment and it allows us to enjoy playing out without the burden of performing a full night's set. Makes for a nice mix.
We really need a nice lead guitar player and extra vocals would be great. I think everyone in the band should contribute to vocals but my voice is sooooo bad, I seldom contribute. But, I'm working on it. I could easily go for a 5 man band and add keys to the mix. I think we could also tolerate some nice female vocals. Some bands get "trapped" in the "all our songs need to be female singer songs" syndrome and their choices get narrowed. I could see a female vocalist doing 1/3 to 1/2 of the songs as lead and then simply do fill in or harmony for the other songs. The vocalist we now have just loves to do harmony.
So, if this sounds like something you're interested in, stop down at The Getaway Pub any Wednesday night and look me up. My name is Charlie. I'll be playing the drums on most Wednesday nights. I support The Getaway Pub's Open Jam Night so I am there just about every Wednesday night. Plus, it's a great way to meet other musicians and learn new stuff. Or, just reply to this ad and we can set something up.
If you want a taste of what we do, check out the web site here and scroll down to the music player and listen to any song by "Charlie and the Poor Boys". Keep in mind, this is "open jam" stuff.
