There is no fee or “catch” to this, I am not making a profit, I am not a bar and have nothing to do with booking bands. I am helping advertise my friends music store in Kenmore which is downstairs from where we will be jamming but thought it would be cool to get a lot of musicians together who are looking for others to jam with and I am looking for some people to possibly work on some original music too, but this is an OPEN JAM SESSION for anyone at any age.
I have a full PA system with mics and we will have drums set up to use also (drummers bring your own sticks). I can run a keyboard, bass and guitar direct (processors needed for electric guitars), or if you prefer you can bring an amp, but please bring your own guitar or instrument.
A processor (to run direct into the PA) or a 1x12 or 2x12 amp would be ideal for electric guitars, but if all you own is a half stack it is acceptable, but please be prepared to keep it under control.
I do ask that you respect the volume and the facility (smoking outside)

I've been writing my own lyrics for years, just looking for a band that needs some of my talent.
I have a great attitude, no drama, and a flexible schedule.
I listen to a lot of alternative/punk/pop-punk music, some of my influences include Juliet Simms, A Day to Remember, New Found Glory, Everytime I Die, Attack Attack, Hit The Lights, Automatic Loveletter, and some acoustic stuff too.
Please don't mistake that, I'm capabale of singing just about anything.

If you're a band- I'm in school and work part time, but I can and will be able to arrange my schedule to make any and all practices/shows/etc. Not many bands out there are looking for girls to sing right now, but even consider me for back-up work. I promise I'll impress you.

Three months ago I moved here from Fayetteville, Arkansas, to which I moved after many years in the Cincinnati area to get my master's degree in literature. While there I had little opportunity to get a band project started because I was so busy, and I just didn't meet people with like interests or time to devote. While in Cincinnati, however, I was in several bands. I had a solo act called Soulever that I put together during the time my most successful band, Four Ohms, was on a hiatus, as well as a stint with another area group, Cats Walking Backwards, for which I wrote much of the material. Four Ohms was together about five years, and some of the members continue on as The Ohms. While I was with the group, we were headliners of our own festival (which I took an instrumental part in organizing), guests on other major regional festivals, and even a Relix magazine "Band on the Verge." Turns out what we were on the verge of was breaking up, though, admittedly, I had a hand in that too. At the time, some of the guys in the group were simply more interested in the booze and chicks that come along with being in a band than the music itself. Booze and chicks are fine, but I like to keep in mind what keeps me searching for my next musical endeavor: the music.

I came to the Northeast Ohio area to attend Kent State University for my PhD in literature, which will keep me in the area for some time, and I've decided that I need to get a band together. In fact, I've been writing a lot of new material that I'm quite excited about. However, I have yet to fill the bass position, so the search continues.

My music is in the tradition of a jamband—improvisation in a rock framework, like Phish, The Grateful Dead, moe., Umphrey's Magee, etc. However, please don't let the "jamband" epithet scare you off; although there are long solo, ambiance, space, improv, and other sections, this music is no mere noodlefest, it has melody, structure, and personality. I tend to categorize it as the music you would get if you crossed Pink Floyd with Radiohead and Phish, though I am a music encyclopedia in terms of what I like, and what finds its way into my material.

For the position itself, I need someone who learn quickly—sort of "on the fly"—and can improvise confidently and creatively. I am working with an awesome keyboard player from the Youngstown area who is an accomplished musician that does solo and cover gigs for money, but comes and works with me for nothing because he likes the material and my guitar playing (he jokingly calls it a "labor of love"). He will often make suggestions for arrangement and other things that I often use, so you'll have some room to give input, and you'll have creative license with your parts as well. I may ask you to do specific hits, or play a part slower or whatever, but I want you to give the songs your signature too. Our drummer, incidentally, is an accomplished percussionist that does orchestra gigs freelance, and has a master's degree in percussion performance. So again, we've got a solid lineup, but we need a good bassist.

Other things: I devote one night a week to rehearsals. I have an electronic drum kit, so we do a kind of "headphones rehearsal," which is actually really cool, or so we've discovered. You can hear everything clearly, jam out, and not disturb the neighbors. A bassist can bring their instrument only—no amp necessary. If you have a set of headphones (especially if they're good quality), that's a plus. We work pretty intently, rarely taking breaks, for three or so hours. We record scratch versions of things, which I put on a CD or email out to everyone after the rehearsal (as you can imagine, this is extremely convenient). Since I am a teacher, which night I can rehearse will vary from semester to semester, but this semester it's Tuesday. We get together about 6pm at my place in Stow. We've also been able to do rehearsals on Sunday evenings and other weekend nights, but a regular weeknight would be best.

What I'd really like to do is get this thing up and running, try and do some opener gigs in the area, and then see about getting a weeknight residency somewhere, since that's a great way to get even better while at the same time getting new fans. We've already been in touch with some clubs. Once we have the residency thing in the bag, we'll go for gigs in the regional area on weekends—Pittsburgh, Columbus, Cincinnati, whatever. At that point, we just see how it goes, and try to get some studio recordings going along the way, which we'll give away for free on our website, and print pro hard copies of for sale at shows. We'll also get them on iTunes and other digital retailers. I've got some experience with this sort of thing, so I think it's a good plan. Now all I need is a bassist.

The band gets together at least once a week to work on material. Most performing is done in the NE Ohio area, but the band will go on short National tours once a year, and will go out of the area on weekend gigs occasionally. The Misery Jackals are gaining recognition throughout the United States and in Europe, as the band's EP release is circulated there. The band is looking to tour in Europe within the upcoming years.

As with most original acts, there is not much up front money to be had, but there is an opportunity to join in the band, and reap the rewards of our hard work in the future as the band becomes more well known and liked.
