 Ubon Ratchatani is one of the main cities of the Isan region, in the North East of Thailand, close to the borders with Cambodia and Laos. Although it remains among the most traditional areas of the country, it is also the poorest and less developed part in terms of infrastructure or industry; creating a huge rural exodus and migration from the Isan inhabitants to Bangkok. The Khueang Nai District administration wants to dynamize the Deng Mor rural areas and stimulate English learning through the international volunteers’ presence. The main target group of the project will be young people and children. Inside this larger framework, each project will address the specific target group in different villages in the Deng Mor area.
Cultural exchange is the main work of the project. The volunteers will discover the typical Isan culture and traditions, visiting villagers, farmers and local artisans, helping them in their tasks. The volunteers will also hold English teaching workshops for the children of several district villages. The exact nature of the work will depend of the needs of the village at the time of the project.
Study theme: The volunteers will learn about the culture of rural Thailand in general and the traditions and specificity of the Isan region. Thai language lessons will also be given to the volunteers.
Special requirements: A correct level of English language and the will to teach it to kids is obviously necessary. The volunteers need also to be motivated to discover Thai culture and to present the one of their country of origin.
Leisure time: Leisure time will be organised by the volunteers with the support of the group leader. The closest city is far but accessible. The region isn’t very tourist attractive as such but the nature is of extraordinary beauty: rice fields, small temples and natural parks are all over the region.
New years Eve, according to the Thai Buddhist calendar takes place in April. The volunteers in the April group will have the great chance to attend the ceremonies and festivities in the village with the local population.
Accommodation: The volunteers will be hosted in a traditional Isan house in the community and have access to the same basic conditions as any villager.
Location: The Deng Mor sub-district area is about 20 km far from Khueang Nai city and 60 km north west of Ubon Ratchatani city, in the Isan region, North east of Thailand.
Age range: 18 and over

I am posting again in hopes of finding some assistance for a very close friend of mine and her family. They are just your typical All-American family; Mom and Dad and these wonderful two boys who are struggling in this tough economy. I know that many people have been affected by this financial meltdown and may only be able to help them by thinking and sending a positive thought that things will work out for them.

But seriously, something has got to give. I would like to be able to help them more myself and know that she has tried to get assistance to help her gas turned back on, yet all of these organizations are out of funding themselves. As I watched snow flakes fall this morning I thought I would post again in hopes that there is an angel that can take them under their wing.

It's tough to be able to know that you can put up the Christmas tree, but there wont be any presents underneath of it. I always donate to Toys for Tot's and highly encourage this, but this year I will be giving these toys to her tots. Also, if anyone has any information regarding how to ask if she can receive from them, please let me know. Again, she would NEVER ask for this kind of help, but i know she needs it and there is a wonderful angel who can help.

Our greatest wish would be houses that would be donated as transitional housing, anything toget them off the street. Right now we are working with 200-300 people a week. I am posting because I have a very close friend who could use some help. Her and her husband struggle everyday just to feed their two children (2 y/o and 5 y/o). Both are currently laid off from their jobs and have a son that has a severe disability. He was born without the bottom part of his legs (congenital amputation of the lower extremities) and they have had to face many obstacles since he arrived 5 years ago.

They currently do not have their gas turned on and are using their stove to heat the home. Her mother is going in for a hysterectomy tomorrow and they just seem to keep having bad luck. I know that many people feel the need to help during the holidays and I think that any contribution would help. She would NEVER in a million years ASK for help from strangers but I KNOW that there are so many kind people in the world that SOMEONE has got to have a solution. Seriously, something has got to give... I am not asking for any particular kind of help, because I know it comes in many forms. THEY JUST NEED HELP! ASAP!

The HEAP program has no money available to help them get their gas turned on, the Salvation Army can't help after it's been turned off and there aren't many other options available.

Winter is quickly approaching and we have to cut back in the number of dogs we take in because of the lack of space. Cutting back means that dogs who are in need are turned down and unfortunately, they will die. It is a harsh reality and that is why we need help!!

All of our dogs come from kill shelters. Many people know them as "dog pounds." For one reason or another, the dog ends up at the pound and they are never claimed. They are scheduled to be euthanized and that is where we come in! We pull them, get them the vet care they need (spay/neuter, health exam, rabies, heartworm check, vaccinations and they are put on heartgard and frontline.) So when they go into foster care, they are completely vetted!

Q and A about fostering

Where is the rescue? Our rescue is based out of Cleveland but there are several transports that are run throughout Ohio, location is not a problem. We have foster homes in Toledo, Akron, Columbus, Dayton and Cleveland.

What is fostering? Basically, you are taking on the responsibility of caring for a dog until they get adopted. Our fosters provide the necessities such as food, water, shelter and most importantly love while the rescue provides vet care, and any other "special" needs.

Why foster? I am a volunteer for the rescue so I can speak out of my own experience. Being a foster home is rewarding and fun. It is neat having a guest dog in your house and they are grateful to be out of the terrifying situation they were in before coming to us.

What kind of dogs are in need of foster homes? All kinds! We take in all breeds, ages, sizes and temperaments. Generally, the dogs that go into foster homes are housebroken and very easy keepers. Unless you want a challenge, which we don't mind! We have dogs that are hypoallergenic, small dogs, big dogs, hairy dogs, and not so hairy dogs. You tell us what would fit your home the best and we will be glad to make it work.

How long will I have a dog? Usually, dogs get adopted anywhere from 1 week to 1 month from when we get them. However, it is not uncommon for them to stay longer. If for some reason you cannot foster any longer, we are more than happy to take the dog back. This is a volunteer act and we understand that. You are helping us greatly by even having them for a short time period.

If you would like to become a foster home please contact me. We ask that you fill out an application so that we can get an idea of what kind of environment the dog will be staying in. They have already been through so much, we just want to be sure that they will be cared for and shown the attention that they deserve. Don't hesitate to ask ANY questions! :)
