A stunning 3-dimensional wall hanging, this profound plaque of Jesus Christ highlights the end stage of his crucifixion and inevitable suffering from the crown of thorns. This vintage chalkware is at least from the early 1940s as indicated by the pencil identification date of Dec. 25, 1941 on the back side of the plaque!
Made of durable chalkware and featuring intricate details, it was mold-cast using plaster and then hand-painted, but there are no cracks, breaks or repairs on the plaster. Looking at it straight on, the paint on 2 spots on the left side of the crown of thorns has worn down with time. There are 2 very small tip chips next to it on the crown of thorns and a very small chip on the bottom of the chin, which is unseen unless it’s turned over, but none of this distracts from this overall image, especially since it’s at least 84 years old! Because of this, it's in like-new condition because of its age.
7” in diameter, the base is 1-1/8” thick, it’s 3-1/2” wide and it weighs an impressive 1.8 lbs. There’s a metal hanging loop on the back, so it’s ready to hang in that special place in your home, or would be a stunning addition to any collection!
