These are an old Hungarian breed of pig known for their exceptional lard and this stuff is amazing for cooking, frying, baking, or soap making. The flavor has no comparison. This particular batch of lard is the snowy white leaf lard, which is the finest grade of lard from these pigs. This is ideal for fine pastry doughs to make flaky, moist pie crusts. Or just spread it on a piece of bread in place of butter! Lard is lower in saturated fat and cholesterol than butter and it is higher in heart-healthy monounsaturated fat. Mangalitsa lard is lighter and it melts at a lower temperature than lard from other pigs because it contains more unsaturated fat.
