It is that time of year again! I've got a modestly-paid gig, hoping for two or three others to expand the sound and create harmonies and if lucky, add a melody instrument.
I figure on 2 to 2-and-one-half hours, three shortish sets, playing Irish/Scots/English pub stuff, maybe selected Americana that fits the vibe: Drinking Songs! Yah, sure, it is Plastic Paddy stuff (I myself am not Irish) but then you don't need to be a black Lousiana sharecropper to play Delta blues-- you just have to respect and love the music. Creating enjoyment for both musician and audience is what this is going to be all about: Good beer, great fellowship, a little raucousness, a little rebellion in the air.
If you break out your concertina only one day a year, but you've done that 20 years straight without people running for the hills, send me an e-mail. If you can bring more than that to the table, I'll promise I'll ante up, too.
Its a one-shot deal, for now. I'm just casting my net: Be a cheerful companion, know how to drink to excess responsibly, know how to be happy with little, and don't be a snowflake.
