Pat. Sept. 17, 1867, this is an ornate filigree cast iron spirit level. The japanning finish is solid with little to no loss, and the webbing is intact with no damage or missing sections.
This antique level is 12” long x 2-1/4” high x 7/8” wide. The beautiful brass face is in excellent condition, clean and untarnished, and it has all its original screws and brass pointer. Its spirit vial bubble is intact and working.
There is cast iron damage on one side as well as 3 chipped corners which is shown in the pictures. None of this impedes the usefulness of this unique level!
In overall very good condition and weighing a solid 1.15 lbs., it was Made in the USA sometime between 1867 and 1875 by the Leonard L. Davis Co.
